The morning the gates stayed open
This is the sky of the Last Adam: dawn, and never sunset again. Its figure is the Tree of Life. Its roots are in Genesis, where the tree is planted and the way is barred. Its trunk rises through a garden at first light: the gardener, the breath, the last Adam, the one new man. Its crown opens into the city where the gates are never shut. The gold stars open the gathered threads.
Because the way to it is the Bible's plot. Planted in the midst of the garden. Barred at the east gate. Standing at last in the open street of the city, its leaves for the healing of the nations. The roots of this figure are Genesis and the crown is Revelation. They are one tree. (The figure is our own invention. The connections are Scripture's.)
